On Saturday 24th June 2010, I got to sing at the 50th Birthday Celebration of my dear friend and mentor, Simon Deacon. There were additional performances plus a DJ set from drummer Tom Skinner.
The shindig took place at the Amersham Arms, New Cross, (http://www.amersham-arms.co.uk/) around the corner from our beloved Goldsmiths College, where Simon is senior lecturer in music.
A visionary artist, musician, director, composer, arranger and teacher, Simon has been a gatekeeper in my life over the past few years, opening a world of performance possibilities through the nxt.gen process he devised with RSC (Royal Shakespeare Company) movement director, Struan Leslie (http://www.struanleslie.com/work/projects/nxt_gen.html). Thank you Simon for being such a generous and kind teacher.
